- What We Call 'Iron' -

written by Gilean

Iron is a very shy mineral.
He is rarely discovered on the outer surface.
He hides between stones and rocks,
and he hides from everything alive.

But humans won't leave poor Iron alone.
They use hoes and axes to dig him out.
They heat him up with fire and awaken him from his sleep,
blowing wind from bellows to stir him up.

As Iron turns bright red from the heat,
humans form him into chunks of metal.
They tie him up with ropes
so that he can't hide anymore.
However, in his deep despair, the Iron gently weeps.

One day, Iron was thrown into a furnace,
and flames enveloped him and burned him bright red.

He was then pounded a thousand, ten thousand times
into the shape of swords, hammers,
and spears.
And just like that, Iron lost his original form,
never to be the same ever again.

After much angst and perseverence,
pain welled up within Iron
and hardened him inside.

Iron, who now shines brightly,
quietly takes his revenge
by slicing and severing anything with which he comes into contact.

Tragically, the object of Iron's built up suffering and wrath
ends up killing those
who had nothing to do with his suffering,
because he is used
by those who abused him.
This is how the tragedy begins.

Today,
humans breed their suffering and anger inside Iron,
and they use him
to hurt other humans.

And, even after he is used until he breaks,
still Iron cannot peacefully rest.

Iron finally rests,
when his body rusts
and crumbles away,
slowly dying and fading into sadness.
